Bartica students were outfitted with school supplies donated by Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes today.
The students and their parents flocked to the Golden Beach Boulevard Area as Minster Broomes presented backpacks, stationery, books, pens and pencils among other items.
Minister Broomes said the initiative is part of a larger vision to have an educated nation. She said that of all the donations she has made, the one in Bartica, which is also her hometown, means a lot to her, taking into consideration the struggles she had growing up.
āBeing home at this time, school is going to be opening, I cannot be comfortable. I am thinking, I wonder who else can I help? How many children out there for the sake of a bag or a book not going to school? I definitely cannot reach all the students across Guyana but I want to give best wishes and tell all the students from nursery to university that the sky is the limit!ā
The parents and children expressed their gratitude to the minister for lending a helping hand. Emily Primus, a student of the Bartica Secondary School, said the donations will go a far way in encouraging children to attend school. āI feel very proud that Ms. Simona Broomes come and distribute these bags and so, it would encourage students to take in their education more and go to school.ā
One parent Judith David-Blair said the donation is much appreciated. āFor me, this is very wonderful especially to Minister Broomes, who is a Bartician and who always looks back to her community to take care of the children in need and this gesture here is one of the many that she has been performing around the country.ā
Before the new school term commences on September 3, Minister Broomes plans to host more back-to-school drives in other parts of the country.
