The Local Government Minister shared that this $9 million subvention cheque, which is the first tranche of $18 million, will be used to fund the enhancement of drainage and irrigation within the town.

“The balance of the resources will be put towards other infrastructure projects like road maintenance. The town is working with the Ministry of Public Works to construct more roads in Bartica and the outlying areas of the town. We would like too that the additional resources that we are providing, go to other infrastructure enhancements within the town of Bartica because we would like to see transformation in a positive way,” the Minister explained.

Minister Dharamlall recalled that the Government budgeted billions of dollars for the enhancement of Region Seven. Contractors also play a part in the enhancement of the region. To this end, the Minister called on them to support businesses in the region so that the regional economy thrives.

By that way, the township economy will be enhanced as the village economies within the region. When that happens, we are going to find more people employed; we are going to find more opportunities; we are going to find more wealth generated.”

Meanwhile, Minister Dharamlall implored the Town Council to play its part in ensuring that persons in Bartica get vaccinated against the deadly COVID-19. He said for the country’s economy to fully rebound, people must protect themselves against Covid by getting vaccinated.

Mayor of Bartica, His Worship Gifford Marshall, Regional Executive Officer of Region Seven, Mr. Kerwin Ward, and other representations from the Regional Democratic Council were present at the handing over of the cheque.
