Minister Norton applauds U20 footballers

Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton wishes to extend heartiest congratulations to both the Guyana National U-20 Men’s and Women’s Teams for their historic performances in the 2020 Concacaf Championships.

The U-20 Women’s reached the quarter-finals stage of their Concacaf qualifier and have proven to the football world that they can compete and challenge the powerhouse nations within the Confederation at this level.

Qualifying in 2019 for the group stage, these young women won six consecutive games – an unprecedented achievement in the history of the Guyana Women’s U20 football.

The U20 Men’s squad have also represented themselves and their country with great pride, having won three of their four Qualifier matches, only conceding one goal in the process.

The recent performances of the Guyana Football Federation Youth National Teams are another defining moment moment for the country, signalling to the powerhouses of Concacaf that Guyana has arrived.

We must acknowledge that these achievements are no accident. Rather, it is a clear indication that the Guyana Football Federation’s National Football Development Philosophy’s and robust Youth Development Strategy are producing top class performers and coaches.

Not to mention, the continued support and commitment from the Coalition Government.

As the Minister responsible for Culture, Youth and Sport, I commend these young, vibrant footballers and wish them every success in their future endeavours.
