At today’s post-Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon said that Minister Ramjattan has advised the Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud to uphold the promotions.

During his time as acting Police Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Ramnarine promoted several police ranks for their outstanding service. However, when Commissioner Persaud returned to duty after being on vacation leave, those promotions were rescinded on the basis of their legality.

Minister Khemraj had since stepped in to resolve the matter following the public spat between the top ranks. “He (Ramjattan) produced a legal opinion that said those officers who were promoted by Mr Ramnarine were to remain promoted, that their promotions should not be recalled so that was the Minister’s report to Cabinet,” Minister Harmon noted.
