MNR boosts communication between NTC and Hinterland Communities
Hon. Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources was paid a courtesy call on September 08, 2020 by Executive Members of the National Toshaos Council (NTC), as part of planned activities for Amerindian Heritage Month 2020 and Budget Consultations.
During discussions, Minister Bharrat highlighted the recent announcement by the President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, H.E Dr. Irfaan Ali to support mining, forestry, hinterland travel, hinterland road development and security within hinterland communities. Minister Bharrat also stressed the importance of hinterland communities as a vital stakeholder and advocate in supporting the Ministry’s monitoring and compliance activities.
Further, as a means of boosting communication between the NTC and other hinterland communities, Minister Bharrat donated a radio set as part of the Ministry’s support programme to hinterland communities, particularly those within proximity to forest and mining operations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Paul Pierre, Vice Chairman of the NTC stated that the donation was timely and will be beneficial to the council maintaining contact with far reaching Amerindian Communities. Mr. Pierre welcomes the support and looks forward to future collaboration between the Ministry and the NTC. He was accompanied by Ms. Jude Da Silva, Executive Director, NTC and Mr. Ashton Simon, Indigenous Relations Specialist within the Ministry of Natural Resources.
