More than 20 schools in Reg. 2 slated for rehabilitation
─ Min. Henry and Min. Hughes engage Dartmouth residents

Thousands of learners, parents and teachers, across the Essequibo Coast, will benefit from improved learning environment with more than 20 schools slated for rehabilitation in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region (Region 2).
Today, Education Minister, Dr. Nicolette Henry, at the 8th of May Secondary School in Dartmouth village, made the announcement at a community outreach following the ‘Government comes to you’ outreach at Damon Square.
While some schools will receive extensions, others will receive new buildings, labs and other infrastructural upgrades.
Reminding the gathering of the remarkable transformations within the education sector over the last few years, Minister Henry remarked that for the first time in Guyana’s history, more than 20 per cent of the government’s budget was allocated to the education sector.
This serves as direct testimony to the APNU+AFC government’s commitment to developing educational infrastructure, curriculum delivery, student involvement and other educational initiatives.
Minister Henry reiterated that education is an investment, adding that learners are agents of change for Guyana and that the government needs the support of all its people to ensure development for all.

“We’ve come a long way from 2015,” the Education Minister stressed as she listened to the concerns of the scores of residents that attended the meeting.
Residents raised concerns relating to the conduciveness of classrooms and transportation, particularly for students coming from the Pomeroon River.
Dartmouth is a well-populated community on the Essequibo Coast situated between Westbury and Perth.
Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes also engaged the residents. She spoke of the several ICT interventions, including the 16 ICT Hubs and several other internet hotspots at schools made available through the ministry’s National Data Management Authority (NDMA), in the region.

Regarding concerns outside of her portfolio, the minister has made recommendations to the residents as well as given commitments to investigate matters raised.
