More than 400 businesses strengthened by business clinics

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce has empowered over 400 businesses through government-led business clinics designed to strengthen entrepreneurs and support small and medium-sized enterprises across Guyana.

Speaking at the recent business clinic held in Westminster Village, Region Three on Tuesday, Minister Rodrigues noted that the clinics provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for entrepreneurs to access government services and receive expert guidance.

“We are serious about ensuring that our population is educated, is protected, is healthy, and that our business owners can thrive in that healthy economic environment that we are creating here in Guyana,” she said

She also revealed that more than 16 clinics have already been conducted, benefiting over 400 businesses.

Minister Rodgriues signalled the government’s ongoing commitment to providing entrepreneurs with the support they need to succeed in today’s competitive economy.

Minister Rodrigues highlighted that one of the major challenges facing small businesses is non-compliance, noting that “when opportunities arise, they are unable to benefit because they do not have the necessary documentation in place.”

Entrepreneurs attending the clinics have access to key agencies, including the Guyana Revenue Authority, the National Insurance Scheme, the Deeds and Commercial Registry, the Local Content Secretariat, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards, the Guyana Tourism Authority, the Small Business Bureau, the Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission, and the Department of Commerce.

Services provided include business registration, tax and social security compliance, assistance with grant and loan applications, business plan writing training, and awareness sessions on regulations and opportunities.

An additional 9 clinics are planned for this year, with a renewed focus on bringing critical government services directly into communities.

By bringing these services directly to communities, the government is making it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to grow while positioning themselves to benefit from national development opportunities.
