New inpatient facility for Mabaruma Regional Hospital

Region One residents are set to benefit from a significant boost in healthcare services as Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony announced plans to construct a new inpatient facility at the Mabaruma Regional Hospital.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during a visit to the region, where Minister Anthony commissioned two new health posts in Wanakai and Tobago to provide increased access to quality healthcare for nearly 500 residents.

The new inpatient facility is expected to increase the hospital’s capacity by adding approximately 50 more beds. This will allow patients requiring admission to benefit from improved accommodation, more efficient care, and reduced wait times.

The Mabaruma hospital is currently servicing approximately 150 patients and conducting some 500 diagnostic tests daily.

In a move to further modernise healthcare delivery, the hospital has also introduced 24-hour services for its pharmacy and laboratory.

Complementing these upgrades is the planned establishment of a pharmaceutical bond, which will serve as a central hub for storing and distributing medical supplies across Region One.

Minister Anthony underscored the government’s vision for equitable healthcare access, stating, “We are working to ensure that regardless of where you live in Guyana, you can access quality healthcare services. These investments are part of a broader effort to strengthen our health system and improve outcomes for all citizens.”
