New water well for Waramuri
Minister of Housing and Water, Hon Collin Croal has said a new water well will soon be drilled in Waramuri, Barima-Waini (Region One) with a new rig from the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).
Minister Croal was addressing residents during a recent outreach to the Moruca Sub-district. He said the new project is a response to calls by hinterland communities for more wells.
“So, we are procuring a new rig to service the hinterland communities and the first community for which that rig will be sent to, to drill the well, will be here in Waramuri,” he told residents.
The Minister anticipates that the rig should be in Guyana within three months.
Waramuri is one of several villages in Region One that will benefit from new water wells, under the GWI 2021 capital programme. Wells are also expected to be drilled in Huradiah, Khans Hill, Wauna, Baramita, Arakaka and Matthews Ridge.
Additionally, under the Water Management and Expansion Programme, Mabaruma Central, Barabina and Wanaina will be interconnected to boost the water distribution system in the Mabaruma district.
Some $4 billion has been allocated in the 2021 National Budget, to procure equipment and improve and expand the water supply network systems countrywide. It also includes the drilling of new wells, along with the upgrading of photovoltaic systems, storage facilities, distribution networks and service connections across Regions One, Three, Seven, Eight and Nine. Regions Eight and Nine’s distribution networks will also be upgraded.
