DPI, Guyana, Saturday December 14, 2019

Central Lethem’s Cashew Grove Park has been formally handed over to the township after the restoration was completed by the Ministry of Natural Resources, through its Clean and Beautiful Communities Project.

The park which was overgrown by weeds and vegetation is now a green space for recreational use.

In a simple ceremony early Saturday, Minister of Natural Resources, the Hon. Raphael Trotman formally handed over the park to Town Clerk, Keisha Vincent, who represented the Mayor of Lethem at the event.

“As I hand it over today, I, promise continued support and also ask in return that you care the park,” Minister Trotman requested.

According to the Minister, Lethem lacked recreational space and facilities, hence the decision to invest in this restoration.

“As part of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Clean and Beautiful Communities Project, we had identified Cashew Grove as one of the areas that we would like to invest in and we have done so. It was also a commitment we made to the former Mayor to do some work on this park and I am happy today that it is at a stage that we could hand it over,” he stated.

The Minister also committed to ensuring that the park is outfitted with lights for use in the evening hours.

Town Clerk, Keisha Vincent, assured that the Town Council will do its part in upkeeping the facility.

Residents in the meantime expressed their gratitude for the newly refurbished facility.

Izvestia Wilson said it was indeed a great initiative. “It is really good for the community and the children who live here because we didn’t have a recreational park to use on the weekend.”

Sharing his thoughts, Godfrey Williams said, “I am excited about the park, for years we wanted this and so it happened by the APNU+AFC government, I am proud about it, and it is really important for the kids. He also requested the installation of swing sets and seesaws for the children.
