DPI, Guyana, Sunday, November 24, 2019
The young people of Potarinau today received a quantity of sporting gear and other equipment from the Social Cohesion Minister, Hon. Dr. George Norton. The gear will go a far way in getting young people actively involved in sport.
The donated gear caters for various sporting disciplines including volleyball and football, as well as two guitars and a keyboard for musical training. Receiving the equipment, Toshao of Potarinau, Carl Albert noted that the contribution will positively impact the dozens of young people in the community.
“This donation is greatly appreciated since it will have a great impact. Our talent comes from Baitoon, Katu’ur and Shiriri who make up our Potarinau Sky King Football Club and as a village playing in the Tabatinga championship this donation will go a long way,” he said.
The Toshao added that the musical instruments given will help those participating in South Rupununi District Council (SRDC) youth conference, which will be held in December.
Minister Norton noted that the donation was “just a start, but we will continue for the benefit of our youths… Our young people in the hinterland regions have the potential to exceed beyond expectations, and so we need to provide them with the necessary tools to excel.”
He stressed that this initiative is in keeping with His Excellency, President David Granger’s vision for the nation’s future leaders to be well-rounded individuals who can continue the development of Guyana.
