Reg. 2 ‘on the mark’ with 2019 projects

─ RDC awarded contracts for 45% of work programme for 2019

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 2 has awarded contracts for more than 45 per cent of this year’s capital work programme.

According to the Regional Executive Officer (REO), Denis Jaikaran, “We (RDC) are doing this in an effort to properly manage the resources handed and be able to provide quality work to those persons in particular areas.”

The region will see the rehabilitation of the Abram Zuil Secondary School, the extension of Adventure Secondary School Annex and Wakapoa Secondary School. Also, the construction of a bridge at Riverstown, the landing at Wakapoa, rehabilitation of electrical systems at the Public Hospital in Suddie and the Oscar Joseph District Hospital, the construction of a culvert at Windsor Castle and a sluice at Charity.

The REO stressed that there are several projects which he hopes will be completed promptly. He noted that it is imperative that all residents benefit from the developmental works within the region.

“The important thing to say to the public is that we have awarded much of the projects and we will continue to do that… We want to conclude that process by the end of April to commence work as soon as possible.”

The Pomeroon-Supenaam Region was allocated $5 Billion in the 2019 National Budget towards the enhancement of its health, agriculture, education and infrastructure sectors. Of this amount, approximately $1Billion was allocated to Health, $455Million for Agriculture, $3Billion for Education and the remainder for infrastructural works.
