DPI, Guyana, Thursday, February 7, 2019

Over the last few days, the Blairmont Community Centre Ground was filled with the fiery performances of students from the Nursery through Secondary level as a part of the Children’s Mashramani Competition.

The event organised and executed by the Department of Education, Region 5, Mahaica-Berbice saw scores of persons taking in the colourful displays and energetic performances from the dozens of participants.

Children’s Mashramani Competition, which concluded Wednesday, February 6, 2019, has renewed, for many, the joy of the Mashramani season. The stands and grounds were filled and there was a thunderous amount of support for every group of participants.

The competition saw Calypso performances, dramatic poetry and various genres of dance. The younger performers, particularly, wowed the crowd with their dazzling, well-rehearsed and well-choreographed renditions, dances.

Students were adorned with colours of the flag, or with colours and materials representing Guyana’s rich flora, fauna and mineral wealth.

Minister of Education, Dr. Nicolette Henry was also present at the event and enjoyed the bold displays of patriotism, culture and diversity.

The winning schools will represent the region in the National competition to be held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) in Georgetown.

Mashramani 2019 is being celebrated under the theme, ‘Celebrating Mash 49 with victory in mind’.
