Region Two residents to benefit from new infrastructural projects in 2018

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, in collaboration with the Region Two administration and the Ministry of Communities, has designed a new concept to improve the waterfront at Supenaam.

The project which will create ease of access and better use of the area is slated to commence before the end of 2018.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that “as a country we have made significant strides over these past 52 years.” She added that there are “many developmental projects we can speak to in all sectors.”

The MOPI, she noted, is continuing making strides in the development of communities in Region Two that will improve the lives of residents.

The Ministry has in its pipeline, more waterfront developments planned for the Pomeroon-Supenaam region.

Minister Ferguson reiterated the government’s commitment to spend in excess of $200Million towards the maintenance of the two ferry vessels (MV Sabanto and MV Kanawa) that service Parika and Supenaam.

Additionally, US$6.5Million has been expended on the procurement of two new generation sets. These will be commissioned before the end of 2018 and serve Essequibo Coast residents.

The Government to date has expended in excess of $1.6Billion in infrastructural improvements and developments in Region Two, inclusive of road works, sea defense maintenance, and the Supenaam Stelling.
