Rehabilitated Aurora Police Station commissioned
―Providing effective policing for the community

Minister of Public Security Hon. Khemraj Ramjattan has commissioned the renovated Aurora Police Station on the Essequibo Coast.
The $40.3Million station was rehabilitated through a collaboration between the ministry and the and the IDB’s Citizens Security Strengthening Programme (CSSP) and houses 13 police officers.
Minister Ramjattan on Thursday noted the administration’s continuing efforts to provide security for its citizens.
“The government of Guyana is committed to making robust investments in the capital works programme of the Guyana Police Force. We had also undertaken to rebuild and rehabilitate 18 other police stations,” he said.
Twelve of the 18 stations have been completed at a cost of $380Million. The rehabilitation of the $14.7Million Suddie Police Station in Region 2 was also secured through the CSSP.
The CSSP reach is countrywide with the rehabilitation of police stations in Mabaruma and Port Kaituma (Region 1); LaGrange (Region 3); Cane Grove (Region 4); Mibicury (Region 6); Issano (Region 7); Annai and Aishalton (Region 9); and McKenzie and Kwakawni (Region 10).
The upgraded police stations include new features such as departments for domestic violence cases, accommodation for children, witness protection, case management rooms, and an area for dealing with the public.
Commissioner of Police, Leslie James noted his satisfaction with the government’s continuous contributions to the public security sector.
“As Commissioner of Police, I am very happy because this is a good day for the Guyana Police Force and Guyana, and of course for the residents of the Aurora Community,” he stated.
Of the six remaining stations, those at Baramita in Region 1 and Parika in Region 3 will be renovated, while the others at Whim and Albion in Region 6, Mahdia in Region 8, and Wismar in Region 10, will be rebuilt.
