Resurrection Sunday brings newness of life – Pas.  Winston Assanah

The resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday brings new hope and newness of life for all. This was the sentiment expressed by assistant Senior Pastor of the First Assembly of God Church Wortmanville, Winston Assanah.

Known to be the most celebrated of the Christians’ holidays, Easter Sunday is foundational to the Christian faith, since it signifies the day Jesus conquered death, three days after he was crucified.

Joining members of the First Assembly of God this morning, Reverend Assanah told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that “resurrection morning” is the most important to the Christian.

“It speaks about the death burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without that we have no Christianity, without that we have no faith where Jesus Christ as we prophesied throughout the scripture that the Messiah will come and die for man’s sin and resurrected in the third day.”

He said the newness of life is demonstrated by the work of Christ while he worked the earth.

“And for that reason, I want to celebrate with you Guyana. God is amazing. He is about to make you some good wine that you could imagine. In your family, in your entire household, that is what this season is all about the transforming power of God.”

Minister Alicson Layne said Easter Sunday means “everything” to her.

“It is one of the most important remembrances in the Christian calendar. It is the celebration of the crucifixion, death and resurrection of the Lord. Easter Sunday is everything. We don’t serve a God who is dead. He’s alive and in touch with what is happening with us. It is relevant to the Christian faith and belief.”

A member of the congregation, Shomaul Khan said “Easter is remembering what Jesus did for us when he died on the cross and gave his life. And so, we are here to commemorate his life. That is what Easter means to me.”

Minister Wesley Adams said the resurrection of Jesus speaks of a new life in Christ.

“Without the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, there would have been no hope for man,” he said.
