‘Rhoda Doxa’ set for 1 August launch

—Providing the authentic African experience

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Thrilled to share authentic African experiences through food and clothing, a young entrepreneur is launching her African store ‘Rhoda Doxa’ on August 1, Emancipation Day.

Dancing to the beat of her own drums, Deborah Kehinde is cementing her spot in the world of female CEOs and entrepreneurs as a dealer of traditional products. Her business markets 100 percent cotton African print cloth, African sourced Shea Butter, makeup and skincare products, even beard growth oils for men.

“We have the organic raw shea butter, black soap…beard oil…” she explained. Other products made or produced by the small business include beauty blenders, concealers, foundation, rugs and traditional African headwear.

Inspired by life in Nigeria, the entrepreneur revealed that since moving to Guyana seven years ago she saw the potential to tap into an underserved market.

“I want people to experience Africa the way I grew up experiencing it. So, that’s why I decided to open [the store]. I don’t want people to just go and watch an African movie and that’s just it, there’s more to the experience. I want people to be able to get the fabric, the food, just like Africa the way I have experienced it,” Kehinde enthusiastically remarked.

She also noted the importance of supporting small businesses and called for increased support for black-owned businesses for longer than just the ‘emancipation season’.

Kehinde added that the global climate has also created a heightened awareness and drive for authentic African products.

“Everybody wants to feel African, people want to know where they are from and for people that can’t go back, why can’t they just experience it here?” she opined.

The new store will also sell traditional Ghanaian, Cameroon, Nigerian and other African dishes, the likes of Pounds Yam and Egusi, Eba and Okro Soup and Jollof Rice with Plantain and Chicken.
