The Department of Youth and School of the Nations have launched the ‘Say Yes’ campaign under the theme: ‘Youth can move the world’. The campaign is aimed at providing a forum and guidance for young people to find solutions to social ills affecting them.
During the relaunch held at the British High Commissioner’s residence, Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton said the initiative will provide practical knowledge for young people to change society.
“Let us build a smart, self-motivated, resilient and innovative Guyanese youth population. The government of Guyana particularly the department of youth will remain committed to this task of nation-building and ensuring that the development of young people remains a priority.”
This initiative tackles social ills such as drugs and alcohol abuse, violence, bullying including cyberbullying. The campaign covers the span and will see several workshops hosted during that period.
The principal of School of the Nations, Brian O’Toole said the aim of the initiative will be done through a creative and innovative approach. “We will not give in to bullies, we must come together to make a change in the development of our young people and for the country,” O’Toole said.
British High Commissioner, Greg Quinn commended the campaign, noting that it is a programme that promotes “good and what is right.”
