DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, September 18, 2018
The resumption of the Small Business Bureau (SBB) In-School Entrepreneurship Programme will benefit at least 165 students from Grades ten and 11 and cater to 25 schools across Guyana.
This was disclosed by Research and Marketing Officer of SBB and Programme Head, Shamane Headley. According to Headley, last week the SBB visited Region Nine and recommenced the programme in St. Ignatius, Aishalton and Annai Secondary Schools.
She said, “currently, we are at the stage of conducting business and entrepreneurship lectures. We are also collecting and reviewing the business proposals done by the students. These students were identified by the headteachers, and senior teachers, from the schools.”
Headley added the Ministry of Education is fully onboard with the project’s resumption. She highlighted that the team will be venturing out to several schools in Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and East Bank next week, to continue the programme.
Earlier this year, SBB’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Lowell Porter told media operatives that following the success of the In-School Entrepreneurship grant pilot programme, the grants will remain at $30,000 per student.
In 2017, the bureau distributed grants to 13 schools countrywide, benefitting 100 students in Grades Ten and Eleven. The initiative began as a way to assist Grades 10 and 11 students with their School Based Assessment (SBA) projects and enhance their entrepreneurship skills at an early stage.
