In its efforts to ensure improved water, power and telephone services, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) held an ‘Open Day’ on Water Street, Georgetown today where scores of persons visited to have their concerns addressed.

The exercise was also aimed at sensitising the public about the work the PUC does and how it is beneficial to the consumer.

Complaints Officer attached to the PUC, Mark Gobin highlighted the strides made by the commission over the last few months to ensure that consumers have their complaints heard and addressed efficiently.

“We have a very aggressive PR programme that we have embarked on to generally sensitise the public, Guyana and the citizens as to what the commission is about, the work of the commission,” Gobin said.

The open day was also part of the PUC’s aggressive campaign to ensure that customers of GWI, GPL, GTT and Digicel are satisfied with their service and to enable consumers to lodge complaints, if necessary.

“We have queries, we have complaints you can file here with us. You just have the staff here that can assist you regarding all utility issues,” Gobin added.

The PUC aims to ensure that regulated utilities offer an efficient service to consumers at a reasonable cost.

Additionally, the commission strives to create an environment in which there is universal access to service in the public sector, as well as high quality of services which are cost effective and beneficial to all stakeholders.

The PUC will be taking its campaign to Berbice with a New Amsterdam ‘Open Day’ on May 15.
