‘We are not just building, we are modernising’
─Minister Edghill commends work of local decorative blocks company
Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill said the Government is exploring construction that reflects a modern Guyana, during a recent tour of KSM Investments Incorporated.
The company manufactures decorative blocks at its facility on the East Coast Demerara.
While commending the company for its creativity, the Minister said, “this is something that we probably would be seeing a lot more, not only in terms of private projects, but Government projects because as a country we are not just building, we are modernising.”
Minister Edghill said the Government is examining options that go beyond merely casting concrete pavements to include an appreciation for beauty and strength.
Speaking with DPI, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KSM Investments, Mr. Mahadeo Panchu said the company, which started in 2012, aims to produce blocks at the highest standard.
The company has already won the Guyana National Bureau of Standards Gold Award for Quality (2017) in this endeavour. It has also received an award for both customer satisfaction and retention through the Caribbean Association Investment Promotion Agency in collaboration with Caribbean Export Development Agency.
Mr. Panchu said while his products are priced a little higher than his competitors, he is proud of its longevity and low maintenance costs. To this end, he said his company is committed to enhancing the infrastructural landscape of the nation, with the help of Government as a facilitator.
“We are here to do good things for our country. We believe in our country… We feel our Government is on the right path and we will work in support of our Government to achieve all the goals they have set for ourselves, our country and our economy.”
Recently, the company provided the blocks for First Lady, Mrs. Arya Ali’s Georgetown Beautification Project.
