Women urged to create a strong community
DPI, GUYANA, Wednesday, May 9, 2018
Women must create a strong community that will further enable them to empower one another. This charge was made by Minister within Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings.
“We must boldly change the environment that negatively impacts on the women in our communities…to create positive experiences, share valuable information, develop robust networks, and provide genuine guidance and assistance to the women in our society… let us empower each other.”
Minister Cummings issued this appeal today, during a Women’s Forum held at the Lusignan Nursery School in observance of Mother’s Day.
Women are important and must be treated with equal respect and dignity as men, she noted, since they play a vital role in the development of the country. She added that motherhood is one of the most difficult jobs, one which they have taken on with ease to comfort, nurture and love.
The minister noted that “being a mother does not necessarily mean birthing a child, even though that is the most obvious scenario. Each family is unique, and true mothering can be provided by a birth mother, adoptive parent and even grandparent.”
The coordinator was applauded for launching such an initiative to show mothers appreciation for their role.
Several mothers at the event received tokens of appreciation.
