Work with your govt, hold your NDCs accountable – Min. Hastings-Williams urge Vergenoegen-New Philadelphia residents
― govt took its services to the people of Reg. 3 and conducted several fan-out exercises
DPI, Guyana, Sunday, April 28, 2019
Following the sixth ‘Government comes to you’ outreach held in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region Three), newly appointed Minister of State, Dawn Hastings-Williams visited the Vergenoegen-New Philadelphia areas.
During her community walkabout and public meeting at the New Philadelphia Primary School, she charged the residents to take up the mantle and hold their Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) accountable after she received several complaints about the opposition-controlled NDC failure to implement life-changing projects in the communities.
Several members of the NDC are reportedly stymieing the Local Authority Area’s development. The minister promised to investigate the matter as she reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to Guyana’s development.
“The government has a mandate to look after every Guyanese citizen,” Minister Hastings-Williams said.
She further reminded that the government has been actively working in Region 3, in areas of Education, Public Infrastructure, Health and Public Telecommunications.
In the development pipeline for Region 3 is the allocation of $20M for works on George Williams Street, Vergenoegen and $49M for roads in the New Philadelphia area.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has also embarked on a project to install street lights throughout the West Coast of Demerara and East Bank of Essequibo corridors all the way to Parika for the benefit of thousands of residents residing in the respective Local Authority Areas.
Also, in the pipeline is the refurbishment of the water treatment plant and the rehabilitation of wells.
Minister Hastings-Williams further said, “this is what our government is all about; Development; ensuring that our people are happy.”
