Youman Nabi Message From the Honourable Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton

Today, we celebrate Youman Nabi – the birth of the Islamic Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be upon Him). Like his predecessors, Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, Prophet Muhammed, is believed by Muslims, to have been sent by God to spread the teachings of monotheism – which is the belief that there is only one God. Muhammed, since his birth in 570 CE, emulated every good character trait that exists.

He was the epitome of righteousness, and I believe that the answers to solving many of society’s present problems lie in reflecting on the life and teachings of this great man.

Before his death in the year 632, the Holy Prophet spent his life preaching and practicing brotherhood and unity, kindness and forgiveness. He also fought feverishly against injustices, and took care of the less fortunate.

As such, it is clear the Prophet’s life can be a guide to uniting the world in love and harmony.

Because Guyana enjoys such a high level of religious freedom and tolerance, I believe that here is the ideal place to start. So, today, I urge you all to let the words of Prophet Muhammed inspire and guide you to break every fictitious barrier that separate us as a people. Let us promise to look past our differences and be spread love as we show compassion and kindness to all those among us. This is our key to achieving Social Cohesion.

A very Happy Youman Nabi to all Guyanese, at home and abroad.

Minister of Social Cohesion,
Dr. George Norton.
