1000 homes to be built in Linden

President saysmaterials, labour to be sourced from Region Ten

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, today, announced that some 1000 homes will soon be constructed in Linden, opening an avenue for employment in the mining town.

The President made this announcement during a meeting with some women’s groups at Watooka House, Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region 10).

President Ali said the Government is establishing a working relationship with the private sector that will target unemployment the region. 

The 1000 homes initiative will also include the private sector. 

“We are looking as far as possible to get the materials from Linden itself to get you engaged. The minister of housing and his team will be coming to engage the young people and women to see how we can put together a group of masons, carpenters,” Dr Ali told the women.

In instances where capacity is lacking, the President said technical persons would be

available to provide training where necessary.

“We are working with the bank and the private sector to commence shortly,” the President said.

The Government will also address the tourism and bauxite industries in the Region to counter unemployment.

Dr Ali and several members of his Cabinet are meeting with Region 10 residents to address pressing concerns.
