$2.9B for 2020 General Elections

Minister of Finance Winston Jordan during the presentation of the 2019 Budget in the National Assembly today, announced that $5.4 Billion has been allocated to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
The minister explained that of the amount $2.9 Billion will be dedicated to the preparation of the General and Regional elections which are constitutionally due in August 2020.
The last General election was held in May 2015. The Coalition APNU+AFC Government won, unseating the PPP administration, who held the rein of power for 23 years.
The Coalition won the election by a one-seat majority (just over 4000 votes).
