The Ministry of Public Health has reported that Region Seven has recorded its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This case is among four others, taking the total 113.
Of these 113 cases, Guyana has recorded 10 deaths and 39 recoveries. Three additional recoveries were verified today.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Karen Gordon-Boyle in her update to the nation disclosed that with 56 persons having been tested in the last 24hours the total has moved to 986 with 873 of those tested returning negative.
One person is now in institutional quarantine while the 67 others remain in isolation at various facilities across Guyana.
Currently, six patients are housed in the COVID-19 ICU at GPHC, with one intubated. six.
Globally, as of May 12, 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recorded 4 4,098,018 confirmed cases with 283,271 deaths. In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed cases has increased to 1,743,717 with 104,549 deaths.
The Ministry of Public Health is again calling on all citizens to heed the health advisories and observe the correct hygiene measures and precautions. Citizens are also asked to always practice social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
