DPI, GUYANA, Tuesday, February 27, 2018

In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Crime Chief Paul Williams today gave high commendation to the organizers and the Ministry of Social Cohesion for the recent Mashramani costume and float parade.

Crime Chief Paul Williams.

With reference to the route, the Crime Chief revealed that it was ideal and resulted in the successful execution of duties by Guyana Police Force (GPF) ranks.

“It was well thought out, and with the police involvement in the whole security arrangement, I think that is the way they should go. There are a lot of things that went towards our benefit and advantages. What you find now is that the route where the mash went, it was very good in terms of where they were able to separate the revelers from the normal commuters, and persons who went out there to observe.”

Williams also praised the use of the Durban Park venue, noting it was “really set out to accommodate the event”. “The persons who have attended the event, they conducted themselves well. We had no problem, no incident. Thanks to them, and the location, we were able to concentrate a certain amount of our resources and still have enough to man the route and patrol around the city and the park. We had everything well set out. It went well, and it all comes back to team effort”, he posited.

According to Williams, the event was a very good one and everyone enjoyed themselves. He his own interaction with persons along the route saw them giving the police ranks “high praise, in terms of professionalism and how the event was handled by them.”
