ANSA McAl, Republic Bank donate to Jubilee celebrations

The Department of Social Cohesion has received two generous donations from Republic Bank Guyana Limited and ANSA Mcal Trading Limited for the Golden Jubilee Republic celebrations.

Republic Bank donated $3Million to the steelpan competition, while ANSA McAl is providing an undisclosed contribution to the Soca Monarch competitions.

Minister of Social Cohesion, Hon. Dr. George Norton stated that the bank has long supported steelpan music locally.

“I am happy to have the Republic Bank Guyana Limited making this continued commitment to Pan Music in Guyana. It has been 12 years now that they have been doing this. And there’s no doubt that has contributed significantly to the revival of Pan Music in Guyana,” the minister stated.

He added that due to the efforts of Republic Bank and the Department of Social Cohesion, this year’s steelpan competition received 15 band entries and 30-plus entries in the duet and solo categories.

Acting Manager of Marketing and Communications Jonelle Dummett said: “Republic Bank is very pleased to continue our investment in the development and resurgence of steelpan in Guyana […] we have seen major growth and we have seen more in involvement in a lot of youths.”

The bank’s year-round support was noted by Mashramani Coordinator, Andrew Tyndall who observed that it has resulted in 12 of the 15 music arrangers for this year’s steelpan competition being products of the Republic Bank’s Pan Minors Music Literacy workshop.

Meanwhile, Dr. Norton also expressed appreciation for ANSA Mcal’s continued support for local musicians.

“ANSA McAl has always been very supportive in promoting the talents and songs of our local artistes. They can claim credit for some of our local stars […] and they will continue to play a bigger role in the younger artistes that are coming up.”

The company’s Brand Manager Nigel Worrell noted that the semi-finals for this year’s competition would be held later this week and promised an exciting event.

The 592 Soca Monarch semi-finals will be held on Saturday at the Linden Municipal Bus Park, Region 10.
