Budget 2020 ‘inclusive’, ‘equitable’ – MP Charlie
Government Member of Parliament, Mr. Alister Charlie, has urged the Opposition to support the 2020 Budget as it is inclusive, equitable, and will benefit all, including their constituents.
MP Charlie made this call in his presentation during the Budget debates on Monday.
In endorsing the 2020 budget, Mr. Charlie noted that it was “a people’s Budget” which would see Amerindian communities benefiting from social, educational, health, and other initiatives for development. He highlighted the increase in school uniform vouchers and the ‘Because we care’ initiative which he said, “will aid thousands of Amerindian students, and will positively impact students school attendance and performance.”
Amerindian communities will once again be provided with the necessary infrastructure which will enable them to receive quality education for their development and the attainment of higher education and skills development, the Parliamentarian said.
MP Charlie also commended the measures to improve the road infrastructure, saying they will “create greater linkages in Amerindian communities and improve access to goods and services. Budget 2020 provides funds to construct roads and maintain existing ones that Coalition Government neglected for five years.”
The hinterland electrification programme will also benefit hinterland and riverine communities, the MP said.
According to MP Charlie, the Coalition Government had painted a rosy picture of success even though it failed the Guyanese people.
