CDC reiterates warnings against current high tide

― another is expected Nov. 27 at 15:31hrs

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, November 26, 2019

Following the high tides experienced today at 03:30hrs, the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) is once again advising persons residing in riverain and low-lying areas, to exercise precaution to minimise damage to property and prevention of any health hazard.

The CDC also warned that another unusual series is expected on Wednesday, November 27, at 15:31hrs.

According to Senior Response Officer, Captain Salim October, the commission remains concerned with the unprecedented level of the current tide and continues to sensitise citizens of the precautions. These precautions can be implemented to cushion the effect and impact of the tides.

Since the predicted period is not yet over, the CDC maintains its call for residents to heed to all protective measures which were highlighted. Among these are the recommendation to move livestock to higher ground, elevate all furniture and other valuable household items to heights which will effectively allow for water to pass without causing significant damage. Seniors citizens and children are also advised to stay away from the floodwaters and to cover any pit latrines to ensure that disease transmission is minimised.

CDC reminds too, that flood, damage to sea defence and overtopping should be reported to the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) at 623-1700 or 600-7500.
