Concept note on Frontline Village Policy presented by President Granger adopted by Cabinet

A concept note on a Frontline Village Policy aimed at greater inclusion of all communities on our national borders in the body politic was on Tuesday adopted by the Cabinet.

State Minister, Joseph Harmon today said the note was presented by President David Granger and focuses on the effective delivery of public services to those communities.

Minister Harmon said that “the note highlighted the need to address such issues as citizenship, registration, economics, security, unemployment, education, information and communication, national defence, public security, public health, public infrastructure, public service and social cohesion”.

The Cabinet, Minister Harmon noted, agreed on a formula for the policy’s implementation.

Meantime, Minister Harmon, responding to questions relating to reports of foreigners terrorizing residents, miners and other businesspersons in communities close to the borders, assured that the administration has systems in place to protect their interests.

“What you are seeing here is an outline of an approach and this is why the President gave this concept note on Front Line Villages and how we need to embrace them and bring them more into Central Government’s decision-making and defence.”

The government, Minister Harmon added, recognises that there is a component of defence which will focus on sharing intelligence with the law enforcement officials and training the citizens in those communities to defend themselves.
