The Central Community Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) has lauded the efforts of the Police in Berbice which lead to the elimination of three dangerous criminals and recovery of a large quantity of ammunition, high powered weapons and bulletproof vests along with a number of items including cash and cellphones belonging to victims of recent robberies in the Black Bush area.

In light of this, Public Relations Officer and Past President of CCCC, Poonai Bhigroog said: “We must compliment the police for a job well done because I think the crime was getting really ridiculous. It was obvious the criminals were getting too brazen because if you look at the crimes of recent in close proximity of the Police Station, and these criminals would go in the same vicinity, they would harass regular and ordinary people. It’s sad to say young lives had to go down the drain but I must say the police have done well.”

He continued that while this recent incident should put the business community at ease, the police should not let up on their efforts but rather stay with the same momentum and keep the situation under a tight lid.

Several other business persons who spoke with the DPI shared similar sentiments, in commending the police while urging further probe to identify the source of the weapons and bring down the support network of the criminals.

On Sunday, ranks from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Number 2 Sub-Division led by Senior Superintendent, Wayne De Hearte came under attack by armed men during a search operation in the backlands of Johanna Black Bush Polder. An exchange in gunfire ensued and led to the fatal shooting of the men, who were implicated in the recent number of armed robberies with violence committed in Berbice.
