COVID-19 teams dispatched as health officials focus on key areas in Region 7

-Several individuals being trained in screening

The Regional Health Officer (RHO) for Region Seven, Dr. Edward Sagala, has reported that two COVID-19 health teams have been dispatched to key areas in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), the third most infected region in the country.

In a press statement issued today, the RHO said, “A health team, comprising of three persons, has left for Puruni Landing today, July 8, 2020, to conduct sensitisation, screening and, where applicable, testing for Covid-19.”

Another team from the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) was dispatched to Aranka, a COVID-19 hotspot, and its environs on July 5.

Dr. Sagala disclosed that a subsequent update will be provided once both teams return.

Moreover, nine individuals, are currently being trained to conduct screening in several areas in Region Seven. These areas include Sherima Crossing, Vulture Boat landing and the Fifth Avenue Beach.

Region Seven has recorded a total of thirty-eight (38) COVID-19 cases including one death. Seven persons have recovered from the virus and six persons are currently in isolation, according to Dr. Sagala.

Twenty-two (22) individuals have also been tested and the results for those tests are pending. Dr. Sagala further reminded persons to stay safe and observe all public health protocols.
