Education is key!

Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport Hon. Dr. George Norton has made it crystal clear that he “will remain a part of the government that is making time and budgetary allocations, particularly in education, to involve all strata of our society.”
The minister was at the time addressing hundreds of Seventh-Day Adventists as they hosted their ‘Youth Congress and Athletic Championship’ at the National Synthetic Track.
“It is our aim as an administration to send a message that Education is key. It is key to ridding our society of ignorance, hate, intolerance and all the negative aspects that have been preventing us from achieving our full potential as a nation,” he stated.
Minister Norton noted that the Seventh-Day Adventist Church has been in existence for over 130 years and has positively impacted the Guyanese society in countless ways. He pointed out that they have particularly done an incredible job in promoting good values such as respect and decency among young people.
He observed that the hosting of the Athletic Championship will go a far way in solidifying the teachings of the church as sports encourages discipline, fairness, self-discipline and self-confidence.
The sporting activities will be held in the evening after the observation of the Adventists’ Sabbath has ended.
