On June 1, farmers from across the country will gather at D’Urban Park, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown to participate in a Post-Independence Market Day organised by the New Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC).

The event will be the fourth of its kind. This event is intended to provide an opportunity for both livestock and crop farmers, as well as agro-processors, to display their produce and expand their market base.

According to Ida Sealey-Adams, General Manager of GMC, the role of the marketing corporation is to develop the non-traditional agricultural sector and to expand all production sectors locally, regionally and internationally.

The Farmers’ Market began in 2017 as part of Guyana’s 51st Independence Anniversary observances. The Ministry of Agriculture collaborated with the Ministry of Business to plan and execute the first event which was held on May 27, 2017.

Last year, the Ministry of Agriculture, through GMC, assumed full responsibility for the organising of the event.
