First Lady attends closing ceremony of Guyana Early Childhood Education Project
Georgetown, Guyana – (September 19, 2018)
First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, attended the closing ceremony of the Guyana Early Childhood Education Project [GECEP] 2015 – 2018, which was held at the Umana Yana, Kingston. The project is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and Global Partnership for Education (GPE) along with the support of The World Bank. It is aimed at improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for children at the nursery and primary (Grade One) levels in Hinterland and remote riverine areas.
The project targeted 8,000 children. The First Lady presented the Master Trainers and Project Monitors with tokens of appreciation. Minister of Education, Ms. Nicolette Henry, Chief Education Officer, Mr. Marcel Hutson, GPE Country Lead, Mr. Daisuke Kanazawa, World Bank Task Team Leader, Ms. Hongyu Yang, Minister of Public Affairs, Ms. Dawn Hastings-Williams and GECEP Project Coordinator Mrs. Quenita Walrond-Lewis were also present at the event.
