Real growth in Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2018 has significantly improved when compared to 2017.

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, said GDP real growth at the end of 2018 is expected to be 3.4 percent. The Minister made the announcement during the presentation of the 2019 National Budget in the National Assembly.

Minster Jordan noted the initial target was 3.8 percent but was revised to 3.4 percent given the performance in gold and sugar. However, economic activity picked up in other sectors which resulted in a half year growth of 4.5 percent.

Minister Jordan said the projected annual growth rate was readjusted for upward growth of 3.7 percent in 2018.
