Government of Guyana Supports the UnitedStates for IDB Presidency

The Government of Guyana is pleased to support the candidacyof Mr. Mauricio Claver – Carone who has been nominated bythe United States of America for the post of President of theInter – American Development Bank (IDB).
Mr. Claver-Carone’s experience in senior positions of the USTreasury Department, the US National Security Council and asUS Executive Director of the IMF augur well for his presidency.
The IDB will hold elections on 12 and 13 September to succeedthe current President Luis
Alberto Moreno of Colombia whose term ends on 30 September2020.
The nomination of Mr. Mauricio Claver-Carone demonstratesthe U.S. commitment to leadership in important regionalinstitutions, and the advancing of prosperity and security in theWestern Hemisphere. His leadership of the IDB is expected tostrengthen its ability to deliver development impact to theregion.
Mauricio Claver-Carone previously served as the UnitedStates Executive Director at th e International Monetary Fund(IMF), where he represented the United States, as the largest shareholder, on the IMF’s Executive Board. He also served asSenior Advisor for International Affairs at the U.S.Department
The IDB plays a pivotal role in the progress and overalldevelopment of Guyana and the
Latin America and Caribbean region.
