On Wednesday afternoon, residents of Wortmanville and Werk-en-rust, Georgetown were given a sense of hope for change and progress in their communities. Several persons flooded D’Urban and Norton Streets in Georgetown to interact with members of the APNU+AFC Administration.

Residents both young and old were informed on the way forward by Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally, Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, Councillor for Constituency 8, Eon Bollers and other members of the APNU+AFC Administration.

The residents, especially the youth, were encouraged to seek self-empowerment and given guidance on youth development programmes as a start to improve their lives.

The Department of Public Information (DPI) spoke to several young people who shared their views regarding the country’s economic benefit from the production of the oil.

“We are pleased that the government is coming to our doors. Getting into business is what we want as youths, and we are pleased the Government is here at our doors to give us application forms so that we can make the first step,” one eager youth said.

After a walkabout, the ministerial team gathered at the St. Thomas Primary School on D’Urban Street, to address the concerns raised by the residents.

Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally encourage them to “stay strong and believe that President David Granger will reform Guyana like never before,” and because of this, the opposition is trying its best to disrupt the Government’s programme to develop the country Guyana.

“We the Government will fight to provide for every Guyanese, we are not here to rob from the small man, we are here to empower them so that they can reach their fullest potential. We are for the people,” Minister Ally said.

She outlined the many improvements made under the Coalition in healthcare services, roads and infrastructure development for communities throughout the ten administrative regions.

“Many persons can say they are owners of their own plot of land, many persons can say they became business owners, many youths can say they were trained through many trade and skills programmes and we are committed and working to provide so much more like never before.”

Minster Ally assured that the citizens of Guyana are the priority. She urged those gathered to be alert and prepared to vote in the coming General and Regional Elections

The Director of Sport, Christopher Jones said it not just about the votes at the elections but the development of the people.

“We have seen for the first time the vendors of Mabaruma have an arcade and even received their own radio station to boost communication throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. It is the APNU+AFC Government that opened radio stations across the country to better inform the people,” Jones said. He urged the residents to be resolute and take the stand to raise their voices and vote for change for a prosperous Guyana.

During the interactive session, residents requested a more massive sensitisation outreach to get across the message to every Guyanese that the administration is working build a better country.

Another outreach and social event will be held on March 27 and 29 at 10:00hrs and 15:00hrs at the Square of the Revolution and Parade Ground, Georgetown, respectively. The aim is to sensitise a wider cross-section of persons about their rights and the way forward for a brighter Guyana.
