GEORGETOWN, GUYANA, SEPTEMBER 25, 2018

The Green Guyana Expo & International Small Business Summit today announced that the dates for the inaugural event have been confirmed as October 18, 19, and 20. Chairman of the Green Guyana, Eric Phillips, said that “two different dates were in the public domain and so this clarification was necessary.”

This first of a kind Expo was conceptualised to support the Green State Development Strategy (GSDS) for building the world’s first green economy. The GSDS builds on, among other things, the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and is a continuation of Guyana’s global leadership in adopting Agenda 2030 principles and fighting climate change.

According to Phillips, “The vision of the Green Guyana Expo & Summit is to be a catalyst for the development of small businesses so that they can become the engine of growth and job creation for the transformation of Guyana’s brown economy along a low carbon and resource efficient environmentally responsible path towards a Green Economy.”

The Expo and Summit will focus on the protection of our environment, the preservation of our biodiversity, the promotion of the use of renewable energy and the adoption of practical measures to ensure climate adaptation.

The Expo will feature the following:

  1. A Green Youth Entrepreneur Section.
  2. A Green Village section for Village entrepreneurs whom are pursuing green initiatives
  3. A Green Kids Zone created by Conservation International, World Wildlife Federation and the Office of Climate Change
  4. A Green Guyana Video section which will be based on a national competition for anyone to share his or her vision of a Green Guyana.
