The results of a recent opinion poll show that President David Granger has a high 94% approval ratings among supporters of the Coalition Government and the country as a whole.

The poll was conducted by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services Inc. (CADRES).

A report from local online news agency – News Source Guyana, says the poll was conducted in February this year and over 1000 persons were questioned in the ten administrative regions of the country.

According to the findings, President Granger enjoys a 94 per cent approval rating among APNU+AFC supporters in terms of his leadership, and a 50 per cent overall approval rating when supporters of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and ‘uncertain voters’ are added.

Newssource reports that 40% of uncertain voters said they approved of the President’s performance as head of state.

Also, the poll found that 94% of Coalition supporter and 40% of Guyanese overall prefer President Granger to handle Guyana’s new oil and gas wealth compared with a mere 24% who preferred opposition presidential candidate Irfaan Ali.

Among uncertain voters, 23 per cent said they wanted President Granger to handle Guyana’s new wealth compared with just 13 per cent for Ali.

The CADRES poll found that President Granger remains an asset to the Coalition, as he continues to enjoy support from supporters of the parties in the Coalition and also possesses excellent support from uncertain voters.

The poll also covers several other areas including who would be the best running mate for president as it also examines many issues facing Guyanese.

CADRES is a political research organisation that has been conducting political and opinion poll across the region for over two decades.
