It is in the opposition’s DNA to oppose – Minister Jordan

DPI, Guyana, Friday, December 7, 2018

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan today lashed out of at the opposition PPP/C for lacking ideas and being bent on opposing the plans and policies of the government regardless of how progressive they are.

“The debates have shown up our opposition as jaded, bereft of ideas and new thinking. Our opposition continues to take the easier road of regurgitating their yearly presentation. In their typical manner … the opposition opposed everything in the budget as indeed they have done for the past four budgets. They end their presentation with the quote ‘I cannot support this budget’ … Even if we did everything that the opposition asks they will not support this budget,” Minister Jordan stated.

In addition, the Finance Minister said that the opposition is bent on taking actions that will aid its campaign of misinformation and sowing discord among the people of Guyana.

“This is an opposition that refuses to take up their seats on boards, on commissions…. refuse to attend budget consultation meetings so that they can cry wolf after not attending… the opposition was …,” he said.

The minister also called out the Jillian Burton’s miscalculations and said it is in keeping with the opposition’s plans to mislead.

Minister Jordan was responding to opposition claims of the $300.7B budgetary estimates being mundane and lack of policies to improve the livelihood of citizens.

Budget 2019 was presented to the National Assembly on October 12. The debate which began Monday last comes to an end today and will give way for the consideration of estimates to begin Monday, December 10.
