Light it up! Street lights to be installed in Rosignol – Min. Patterson

― “My ministry is responsible for the lights on the main road, but we are willing to help the community”

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, April 25, 2019

Scores of residents were present at a community engagement led by Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, in Rosignol on Thursday. This engagement was consequent to the governmental outreach held at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) office in Fort Wellington.

At the Rosignol Secondary School, many concerns were levied to Minister Patterson. One that gained a lot of support from the audience was that of the lack of street lights in Rosignol. This was raised by Imam Ishman Mohammed who said, “a complete change could take place in peoples’ lives if they have street lights”.

In response to this grave concern, Minister Patterson stated:

“Once the NDC is willing to pay for the maintenance for the upkeep of the lights, we [the Ministry of Public Infrastructure] will install it immediately”. As such, the Public Infrastructure Minister vowed to provide twenty street lights to be installed in the town, adding “my ministry is responsible for the lights on the main road, but we are willing to help the community”.

Minister Patterson relayed that the NDC responsible for Rosignol will host a statutory meeting next Tuesday and so he is prepared to press forward with making lights in the community a reality should the NDC provide its support.
