DPI, Guyana, Saturday, September 14, 2019
Maria’s Pleasure Primary School, on the island of Wakenaam, is now equipped with a laptop computer as the government continues to invest in education and bridge the educational gap.
The computer was donated by the Ministry of Communities following a request made by the school. Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Nicole Telford handed over the computer to Headmistress of the school, Deanne Retemiah.
The headmistress said that the computer will be very beneficial to the students especially since the school is already equipped with internet connection through government E-government programme. She noted that they face some challenges when the previous computer stopped functioning.
The students will soon benefit from the school feeding programme. She said that the school has received the booklet which they will have to fill out and submit by next week.
Additionally, the school has done exceptionally well at the recent National Grade Six Assessment, recording a 100% pass rate. The Headmistress also noted that the school recently was received an additional teacher that has eased the burden of teachers managing more than one classroom and students are now more engaged.
