In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education has put measures in place to ensure students are safe and can continue learning.

Speaking at a Ministerial taskforce Press Conference on Tuesday, Minister of Education Dr. the Honourable Nicolette Henry said that the Ministry has issued several public advisories to date to ensure that all parents, teachers and students have accurate information regarding the Ministry’s response to the virus.

The Ministry will be providing continued academic learning online via social media platforms along with more traditional medium, such as television and radio.

Vulnerable students and those with diminished access to education will also be catered to through social impact programmes that the Ministry is currently working on.

“Currently we have closed all of our schools…in keeping with guidelines and guidance provided to date,” Minister Henry stated.

The Ministry is also actively working to ensure the readiness of all training and learning facilities under its purview for sanitation and continued hygienic practices. This, the Ministry noted, will create a safe environment for students and educators when they return to school.

Minister Henry further noted that she has begun discussions with the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) to facilitate the smooth rescheduling of the National Grande Six Assessment (NGSA) which was initially set for April 8 and 9 and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations usually held in May/June annually.

NGSA practice test papers are available on the Ministry’s website. Radio broadcasts of the Interactive Radio Instruction continue daily on NCN Radio and Radio Mahdia, Bartica, Essequibo, Mabaruma, Lethem and Radio Paiwomak.
