More than $3Billion elections funding proposed for GECOM

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan today presented a supplementary paper to the National Assembly asking for $3.4Billion for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) even as Guyana awaits a ruling on the December 21, 2018 vote, by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
In a brief comment to the media at the 114th sitting of the National Assembly, Minister Jordan confirmed that the request will be debated and passed in the National Assembly next week. He explained that the intention is for GECOM to have all the resources it needs in the event of a National Elections.
Some of the expenses to be covered by the funds when released are Fuel and Lubricants – $35.4M; Rental of Buildings – $82M; Transport, Travel and Postage – $409.5M; Utility charges – $4M; Other Good Services $617M; Other Operating Expenses – $1.5B; Education Subventions and Training – $113.4M.
