NANA to be launched in December

GINA, GUYANA, November 29, 2016

The government will officially launch the National Anti-Narcotic Agency (NANA) in December, Minister of Finance Winston Jordan said.

NANA is expected to promote greater coordination between agencies that are involved in the fight against illegal drugs and transnational crimes such as contraband smuggling, and gun and people trafficking, Minister of Finance Winston Jordan said during his budget presentation in the National Assembly, Parliament Buildings, Brickdam on Tuesday.

The establishment of the NANA stems from the National Drug Strategy Master Plan which was completed earlier this year.  The setting up of NANA is expected to see the merger of the Police Narcotics Unit and the Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU).

“The National Drug Strategy Master Plan and a draft of the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Master Plan, both of which were completed in 2016, will serve as a strategic guide for our efforts going forward,” Minster Jordan noted.
