National Grade Six assessment 2020 results
The results of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) written on July 01 and 02, 2020, are being released to schools. Fourteen thousand thirty two (14,032) candidates wrote this assessment. The results being released give a report on the candidates’ performance at National Grade Six Assessment. The administration and the marking of the National Grade Six Assessment 2020 followed the national COVID 19 guidelines and protocols.
The NGSA results will be available online from 13:00 h. Parents and students are advised to log onto the following website: http://exams.moeguyana.org. The candidates’ timetable will provide the necessary information to access these results.
The Ministry of Education has continued its collaboration with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to improve the quality of all national primary grade assessments. Teachers, subject specialists and test development officers developed the test items with the technical guidance of the Caribbean Examinations Council, addressing key areas such as item construction, weighting of items, sampling and other psychometric elements. Candidates were tested in four subjects namely, Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies. The examination in each subject area consisted of two papers. Paper One consisted of forty multiple choice items while Paper Two consisted of essay type or open ended items.
Areas tested for each subject were:
Mathematics – Knowledge, Algorithmic Thinking, Reasoning
Science – Knowledge, Comprehension, Application
Social Studies – Knowledge, Conceptual Understanding, Use of
Knowledge
English Language – Reading, Comprehension and Vocabulary: Structure and
Mechanics; Content, Focus, Vocabulary; Language and Organization
The highest possible standardized scores obtainable were:
Mathematics 136
English 129
Social Studies 128
Science 135
The highest possible total score obtainable was 528
OVERALL SUBJECT ANALYSIS – 2020
Improved performances were recorded in English, Science and Social Studies while a marginal decline was recorded in Mathematics. In 2020, 61.2% of the candidates secured 50% and more in English as against 57.4% in 2019. All administrative regions recorded improvements in the number of candidates securing 50% and more in English: Region 3 – 63.4%, Region 6 – 57.5%, Region 10 – 71.9% and Georgetown – 78.9%
A significant improvement was noted in Social Studies, 53% of the candidates secured 50% and more in 2020 as against 39% in 2019. All administrative regions recorded improvements in this subject area. Region 7 moved from 21% recording 50% and more in 2019 to 30.8 % in 2020 and Region 5 recorded 49.2% in 2020 as against 33.7% in 2019.
Mathematics moved from 42% gaining 50% and more in 2019 to 39.4% in 2020. In Science 44.1% of the candidates gained 50% and more in 2020 as compared to 42.4% in 2019.
President’s College
President’s College is one of the A schools in Region 4 where non residential places are awarded to candidates in Region 4 from Mahaica to Cummings Lodge, who have attained a minimum score of 490 marks. Residential places are offered to candidates from Regions # 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 who have attained scores of 490 marks and above. A total of two hundred seventeen (217) candidates from schools in Regions 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 are eligible for entry into the school.

The top position was shared by Samuel Barkoye of North Georgetown Primary and Rovin Lall of Stella Maris Primary with a score of 525 marks.
Third position was gained by Alexander Singh of Marian Academy with 524 marks. Two candidates shared the fourth position namely: Lianna Dharampaul of Mon Repos Primary and Brandon Ramdin of Westfiled Prep with 523 marks each. Sharing the sixth position are three candidates with 521 marks each, they are: Britney Peters of One Mile Primary, Gabriel Felix of New Guyana School and Dhanesh Tularam of Academy of Excellence.
The ninth position was shared by four candidates namely: Yuki Clarke, Charisma Etwaroo and Salmah Bacchus of Academy of Excellence and Robert Forrester of Winfer Gardens Primary.
