New MPs ready to serve the people

New Member of Parliament and Minister of Business, Haimraj Rajkumar, who has a business background said he was ready for his new portfolio, and to serve the people of Guyana.

Upon his arrival to the Parliament this afternoon, he told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that while his new portfolio was wide, he was prepared.

“Several agencies fall under the ministry that are equally important so there is a lot to do… I was a businessman for 13 years, I studied marketing, economics and management, so I’m sure I will be able to contribute to the efficiency of the ministry” he stated.

New MP, Reynard Ward, comes from and farming and agricultural background. He said he was there to represent his constituents and plans to do that to the best of his ability. “I’m agriculture based so I will be looking at young people, rural-urban migration and creation of jobs” he noted.

MP Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, who was sworn in to take up the post of Minister of Public Service, in the Ministry of the Presidency, noted that she too was ready to take on her new portfolio.

The new appointments to the Nation Assembly were announced by His Excellency, President David Granger yesterday.

The president also reassigned several ministerial portfolios; Dawn Hastings-Williams has been appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency, Annette Ferguson has been reassigned as Minister within the Ministry of Communities, with responsibility for Housing, Simona Charles-Broomes has been reassigned as Minister within the Ministry of the Presidency, with responsibility for Youth Affairs and Valerie Adams-Yearwood, as Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, with responsibility for Rural Affairs.

In the meantime, speaking to DPI and other members of the local media, Minister Hastings-Williams said she was ready to take on her new portfolio and serve the people of Guyana.

“I’m prepared, ready and unafraid” she stated in response to questions about her readiness.
